Retroist Small Wonder Podcast

Welcome to the Retroist Small Wonder Podcast. On today’s show I talk all about the eighties cult sitcom, Small Wonder. I start off talking about how I often enjoyed this show during it initial run. Then I talk about the people in front of and behind the camera, the plot, the show’s distribution and much more. This is a great show that I would put into my “comfort TV” category, so I hope I can do my part to get you to check it out.

I’m the guy with the fan art in the first DVD, I’ll tell you that. Seems like everyone was down with extras, a reunion, etc. except the main character herself, Tiffany Brissette. What’s up with that? The show isn’t against god, and a lot of people are fond of it. I did see the dad on a soap opera recently, acting much the same as in small wonder by the way. Makes you wonder how cool a reunion episode would be.

Tiffany Brissette grew up in my hometown of Redding, California. She was a minor celebrity around there when the show was on, and I recall her doing a few local station ID spots for our local ABC affiliate (KRCR-TV), which aired the show weekday afternoons.

Being the same age as her, my friends and I knew kids who knew other kids who had gone to school with her across town before she’d become a big TV star. Virtually everyone said she was – or had become – a snobbish, fame-drunk little brat. I’m not sure if any of that was true, but It’d be cool to know what she’s up to now. Maybe she’ll have a cameo in Small Wonder: The Next Generation.

I actually hated that show, mainly because it had an uncomfortably weird vibe that I still can’t quite explain. Even though it was on all the time, I probably saw only a handful of episodes.
