Retroist Berzerk Podcast

Retroist Berzerk Podcast

Welcome to the Retroist Berzerk Podcast. On today’s show, I start off by talking about how after breaking an Atari joystick while playing Berzerk, I grew closer to one friend and further apart from another.

Then I jump into the star of this episode, the Stern arcade classic, Berzerk. I talk about the people and company who created the game, the gameplay, strategy, ports, sequels and much much more.

Show Notes

  • One of my early posts on the Retroist was about Berzerk and I spelled it wrong. I had a dozen comments making fun of me for that. Some people love when you mess up.

Thanks for listening to the show and I hope you have a great weekend.

  1. Atari I/O

TWO great Atari-themed podcasts in one afternoon? What an incredible way to celebrate Atari Day! Great job on this episode, Retroist! Berzerk is one of my most favorite games for the Atari 2600. Even though I just recently broke yet another Atari joystick playing this game! Thanks for sharing something so wonderful yet again Retroist!

Thanks for giving some love to this often overlooked classic!

  3. Atari Adventure Square

Berserk is a game that plays well in all platforms.
But I did prefer the 2600 one for being able to shoot Otto.

I know the feeling of broken joysticks. Though mine never cracked, they wore out from use.
Your friend’s one musta had heavy wear-and-tear to actually break like that – might’ve been unresponsiveness that summooned extra pressure from your gamer grip.

Yeah, I do know the feeling of feeling protective over consoles, in those days.
I would peer at my friend’s grip and twitch responses, worried that the stick would give out and leave me unable to get dual-joystick action on Raiders, later on.

Ah well, in these days of Stella, all I have to worry about is a thrown keyboard out the window.
eh…maybe a lawsuit with that, though.

Berserk is a fine game, worthy of bankruptcy, though.
