Retroist Dark Crystal Podcast

Welcome to the Retroist Dark Crystal Podcast. On today’s show I talk all about the cult film, The Dark Crystal. I begin by talking about how a friend of mine did a dead on impersonation of a character from the Dark Crystal and how it can ruin a friendship. Then I talk about the film. I talk about the plot, the characters the cast, and deep deep mythology. After that I touch on the various books and the video game as well as the potential influence of a very famous film.

Loved this movie! Didn’t see it in the theater, but caught it a zillion times on HBO

One of the first movies I ever saw in a theater, and extremely influential.

    @ Doug Absolutely.

This is just a fantastic movie. It also turned me on to Brian Froud’s artwork which is always amazing.

I can still remember watching that making of special they had on ABC back in the day. 🙂

I think we should start a petition to get your old friend to do the skeksis imitation once more!

Love this movie. My mother took me with her to see it when I was 4 years old. To this day for some reason she tells me, she thought I was going to be scared for lige. However I watch the movie to this day & it’s even more beautiful on my hdtv.

A 35mm screening of The Dark Crystal is going to be playing free in Austin, TX on July 28, 2012.

Even though The Dark Crystal was one of my brother’s favorite movies — and it ran on HBO non-stop when I was kid — I’ve never seen it. I’m going to rectify that error by taking my wife and kids.
