Retroist Trivial Pursuit Podcast
Welcome to the 8th episode of the 15th season of the Retroist Podcast. Today’s episode, number 281, is all about the Eighties board game phenomenon, Trivial Pursuit.
I begin this podcast telling a story about how my mom and I would come to dominate a Trivial Pursuit game night by unintentionally memorizing a lot of the questions. It was a funny game night and a story my mom and I would love laughing about for years to come. Sadly, I don’t remember the questions anymore.
Then I move onto the game. I discuss the game’s creation, its creators, the companies that would license it, various editions, the video games, game shows, and much more.
Trivial Pursuit was a phenomenon when it was released, but it wasn’t a flash-in-the-pan. It is an evergreen concept. New trivia is always being created, so it has an infinite number of future editions to make in the future.
It is a great game that can be a lot of fun, allowing you to be social, while learning tons of facts. So do yourself a favor, take it out of your game closet, and play it this weekend.

Production Notes
8th episode of the new season and the 281st episode of the Retroist Podcast.
I think I have told this story somewhere before, but I can’t remember where. Maybe it was when I went on as a guest on someone else’s podcast?
I have multiple Genus Edition sets of Trivial Pursuit. When I have seen them for sale in the past, I found them hard to resist.
I caught myself mispronouncing Selchow and Righter. I had to re-record that whole section. Luckily, I caught it during my recording session.
It is great that the creators of the game acted as reporters to do research, when they were already reporters.
The section about Game Editions was much longer, but was too listy. I was just amused by all the variations.
I hope the “How to Play” section works. Furthermore, I recorded 3 different versions. This was the 2nd recording.
Removed 2 commercials to reduce length a little.
Took out details about House Rules and just referred people to website.
The sections about litigation and the game shows were about 2 or 3 minutes longer.
Looking up the “Genus” name was long overdue.
Had a section about Trivial Pursuit in other media, that is where the Moops part at the end was pulled from.
Music on the show is, as always, by Peachy. Love that new track!
Thanks for listening to the show and I hope you have a great weekend.
