Retroist Tron Podcast

Retroist Tron Podcast

Welcome to the Retroist Tron Podcast. On today’s show I talk all about the pioneering 1980s classic, Tron. Yes, just in time for you to catch up on the film before Tron Legacy (funny how that happened).

I talk about the movie’s plot, production, the cast and people behind the camera and Tron stuff in print and in video game format.

This is just one of a couple of movies that have affected my life. I am happy to be able to talk about it on the show.

    Excellent, podcast, Retroist!

I feel lucky that I picked up the Tron DVD when I did, I see that even Netflix isn’t able to send its subscribers the disc. It is a very good time to be a Tron fan. 🙂

TRON legacy looks awesome. High hopes. 28 years between part 1 and 2. Finally a sequel to an old film instead of another of the millions of crappy remakes! I heard they are even already working on part 3. One possible storyline is David Warner just getting out of jail as Sark and taking over again. I also hear Cindy Morgan will be in part 3, as far as David Morgan I have no info. If he could be back as the villian again that would be so awesome!!!!!! I like the arcade machine “cameo” and the general dark, stormy feel to the visuals. Kind of like a classic gamer’s dream movie if it’s as good as it seems. So cool.

You know, what never did grow old about Tron:

    The music.

From start to finish, as soon as those sounds kick in, it’s 1982 all over again….The sounds of Tron are as iconic as it gets, floating in the raffters with the starwars, supermans, and indy jones.

Great podcast! My favorite hidden gem is when the Solar Sailer flies over an outline of Mickey’s head. Missed the Pac-Man bit though.

What a happy coincidence, this podcast arriving just as the great new Tron flick hits theaters.
It’s like when I make delicious fresh hot buttery toast – just as a cool thirst-quenching glass of Quik is sitting idly by the toaster.
    It’s the little things. Y’know?

But it sure is screwy how Disney stopped selling the classic movie just because (so I’ve heard) they were wary of having kids put off by the comparison in style, graphics and storytelling.
New Tron, old Tron – it’s all good!

Anyway, add my voice of agreement with Trancer about the music.
It’s still as perfect a soundtrack as it ever was.

Kind of an odd theatrical viewing on my part.
People didn’t know what to make of it.
It was too visually odd for kids, too pared-down storytelling for adults.
I remember the occasional snarky outbursts with the Pac-Man sounds and the disappointment at the Bazooka-Joe humor in the dialogue (“If this is about those parking tickets…”).

But it amazed me even then and that feeling would grow over the years as I watched the movie in conjunction with an immersion in video-game worlds from the consoles hit-or-miss orbital trajectories with their individual styles and imaginative titles to the arcades’ many worlds contained in as many cabinets.

Tron still remains a visual testament to the fun of video gaming.

Tron and RAM reunite in the special features of Tron Legacy. Total Geekgasm!

Was always jealous of my cousin who had Tron figures. He had one of the red guards and Tron and one cycle.

All I managed to get was a rip cord tron light cycle from a giveaway in a cereal box. I was the TRON fan damn it!!

The new TRON movie was cool but didnt have the magic for me of the original universe. Too many diffrent machine and no true TRON?? Wtf? Rinzler? Huh? Some one explain this?
